City of Bremen
The city of Bremen, at the heart of North West Germany, represents a centre of science and high tech industry which also boasts 1200 years of Hanseatic heritage. Whilst providing some magnificent architecture and a cosmopolitan culture, the city has been shaped by engineering; spanning ship building, aircraft construction, space station assembly and space propulsion systems. Together with its near neighbour, Bremerhaven, the two cities form Germany ’s smallest federal state. The latter has long fostered a lively exchange of science and public awareness, in 2005 being declared ‘City of Science‘.
